Pregnancy Update – Week 38

Size of Baby (per “What To Expect”) – Size of a winter melon (not sure what that is, but I would guess more like a watermelon…). Somewhere over 7-8 pounds – based on ultrasound three weeks ago.

Weight Gain – 25-26 pounds.  I honestly don’t care at this point.  I’m just trying to get to delivery day.  Since I have put in the time to stay fit during this pregnancy, I have no doubt that the weight will come off quick.

Movement – The most movement is at night before I go to bed.  When I am getting comfortable, so is baby.

Sleep – Dare I say this has been the best week of sleep that I have gotten in a LONG time?  I am feeling the most rested that I have felt in months.  Hint, hint baby.  It is the ideal time for you to come soon.

What I miss – A good patio cocktail.  I have had a glass of wine or two this pregnancy, but with the weather changing, I am really looking forward to having a craft beer or cocktail on our patio.

Best Moments this Week – The weather!  We took advantage of the warm temperatures by walking ALOT.  My daughter was eager for preschool drop off this week (even sporting some pigtails!).  Isn’t walking supposed to get labor going?  There were literally two days this week that I was out for a walk and started having contractions.  I literally thought, this is the day. I’m going to go home and they are going to get worse.  I’m going to have to call my husband.  Not so much.  They were just Braxton Hicks that went away once I got home, sat down and had some water.

Looking forward to – This is an easy one.  My doctor’s appointment on Tuesday, followed by possible induction on Friday.  We will meet this baby in the next week or two.

Cravings – Sushi.  And lots of it.  Since the baby is still not here, but my mom is (patiently waiting to watch my daughter when I go to the hospital), we were able to use her as a babysitter on Saturday night to go out to dinner on yet another date night.  Our sushi restaurant of choice in Charlotte is Pisces.  It’s simple.  Great tasting, relaxing atmosphere and moderately priced. We typically order five rolls and split them.  We were overwhelmed when four of them came out on a wooden boat.

Symptoms – Feeling large and in charge.  I attempted to use my breast pump this weekend.  Sounds weird doesn’t it?  There is an old wives tale that if you use your breast pump prior to your baby being born that it stimulates a hormone that can start labor contractions.  Clearly it didn’t for me.  The whole situation is so odd that I will not be trying it again.

Workouts – Lots of Flywheel, Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD, and walking with my daughter at this point.  I have a pregnancy application on my phone (“What to Expect”).  Interesting enough, this fact came across my daily feed recently.

Monday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Tuesday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Jenna.  Long neighborhood walk and playground time with my daughter.

Wednesday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.  Long neighborhood walk and playground time with my daughter.

Thursday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Jenna.

Friday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Saturday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Shane.  A group of fellow instructors got together to support the new instructor.  After the ride, we showered and headed over to a local restaurant to catch up.  I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it, but I am so glad I had a chance to get out and catch up with my co-workers.

Sunday – TRX circuit training in the garage.

Pregnancy Update – Week 37

Size of Baby (per “What To Expect”) – Size of a cantaloupe. Somewhere over 7 pounds – based on ultrasound two weeks ago.

Weight Gain – 25 pounds.  I have finally started to put on some pounds as the end of this pregnancy nears.  I gained almost 30 pounds with my first, so this is pretty consistent.

Movement – Movement is centralized very low.  The baby has dropped.  I feel like I have to count to three before heaving my belly over to roll out of bed.  I have to turn my stomach to the side to wash the dishes/brush my teeth when I am at the sink.  There is no more standing straight without putting pressure on my stomach.

Sleep – My daughter and I are fighting over control in her new room (similar to what we did in the crib a few months ago).  This week we again started working on crying it out.  Getting used to the fact that mom and dad are not willing to play in the middle of the night.  Dreadful.  Really.  Heartbreaking, and annoying.  I am getting prepared for disrupted sleep.  As much as I hate being sleep deprived (during a time when I really need sleep), I love my sweet girl so much.

What I miss – Teaching!  It has already been two weeks since I was on the bike as an instructor.  My power numbers have dropped.  I have had to adjust my bike settings (due to my dropped, larger belly).  I have slowed down.  It is good that I stopped teaching when I did.

Best Moments this Week – A really fantastic night out with my husband.  I will spare the details (since I posted about it yesterday).  Since I didn’t get to go to the wedding last weekend AND I never know when this baby will get here, I am enjoying each and every night out that we have together.  They will be few and far between in a few days.

Looking forward to –  Doctor’s appointment.  Tuesday.  The first one that my husband will have made it to since 18 weeks.  We are going to talk elective induction.  What does that mean?  Each and every way that we can accelerate starting the birth process without using meds.  Ladies, let me give you some ideas – using your breast pump (weird, I know) and stripping membranes.  Discuss with your doctor if you want more information.  I don’t know if it was coincidence or not, but the day that I did both of these with my first, I went into labor.

Cravings – Ahh, I keep saying – sweets.  We gave them up for Lent.  Go figure, the theme of the bat mitzvah that we went to on Saturday was candy.

Temptation city.  I decided that I would cheat.  There is a first time for everything.  My first bat mitzvah (and maybe my last – at least for a long time), called for me to participate in all activities.  That includes testing out the ice cream sundae station.

IMG_4636 Symptoms – That ever expanding belly.  It made it difficult for me to squeeze into appropriate attire for the big weekend party.  I am sticking to workout clothes at this point.  Aside from the obvious, I’m really tired.  I’m thirsty all of the time.  I am starting to feel a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions, and I am becoming super anxious.  When will I start going into labor?  Will my water break?  These are questions that can be different for every pregnancy.  Eek!

Workouts – I squeezed in three rides this week.  I think I am making some of the people in the classes that I am attending nervous.  Y’all, I’m good.  I am working hard, but I am way below the effort level that most people are engaging in.  Working out keeps me sane.

Monday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.  My daughter and I also got together with a group of new moms (one of whom is also pregnant with her second) to tape a segment for a local new station about Baby Mama Yoga and Baby and Me Yoga at Moga Charlotte.  What a great class.  I hope that other pregnant/new moms were watching.  If you haven’t checked this out, you need to ASAP.  This is a great way to introduce your children to fitness early, have fun and meet other women with common interests!

Tuesday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Jenna.

Wednesday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Thursday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Jenna.

Friday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Saturday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Denise.

Sunday – Day off.  Hello spring forward.  Walks around neighborhood and chores made up my exercise for the day.  It was too nice to be inside, and I needed the rest.  My daughter even tested our her new mini yard tools.

Pregnancy Update – Week 36

Size of Baby (per “What To Expect”) – Size of a melon. Approximately 6 pounds, 11 oz.  Straight from the ultrasound this week!

Weight Gain – Somewhere between 22-24 pounds. I’m not going to change this amount.  Weight has not been changing much (even with as much as I have been eating).

Movement – Big time.  Remember how I said that I was feeling a lot of pressure in my hips this time?  The ultrasound confirmed the baby’s knuckles and hands are pressing into my pelvis.  Essentially, she is trying to do a shoulder press upside down.  That explains that.  The strong outward movements are due to the position of my placenta (in the back).  I literally have no cushion to soften those outward blows.

Sleep – What is sleep?  Oh yea, that activity that most people do at night.  I am shooting for five to six hours a night – broken up, nonetheless.

What I miss –  The most anticipated wedding of the year!  Due to the impending arrival of baby number two, my husband represented the family at my sister-in-law Colleen’s wedding.  Since I was supposed to be in the bridal party, my husband carried around a photo of my face on a stick during wedding activities.

11035704_10100445996002412_8866605551281130155_nHilarious.  I was in such a bad mood sitting at home knowing that everyone was having a good time while I was laid out on the couch eating any and everything out of my refrigerator while watching reruns of Modern Family and HGTV.

Best Moments this Week – My full term ultrasound results.  I can’t tell you what a relief it was to hear that baby is head down and looking good.  At this point, I am cleared to go anytime.  We are in full countdown mode now.

Looking forward to – Um, hello?!  The baby getting here.  My mom even noticed that the baby looks like it has dropped in the past few days.  She is hanging low.  I am feeling every little movement.  I can’t wait to meet this little one!  With the final countdown on, I can feel the bond with my first daughter growing stronger.  I am taking in every little moment that I have left with her by herself.

Cravings – Sweets, sweets, sweets.  We gave them up for Lent.  I am substituting my after dinner dessert with cereal and yogurt.

Symptoms – Big belly.  Fatigue.  That’s about it.  I have been fortunate enough to avoid stretch marks and other cosmetic issues due to pregnancy.

Workouts – I was in a bad mood by the end of this week as a result of not getting regular workouts in.  Since my husband was out of town and school was cancelled, I was subjected to doing most of my workouts indoors at my house.  By Saturday I gave in and hired a sitter to come over while I left the house to go exercise.  I know.  Don’t judge.

Monday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Tuesday – TRX circuit at home.  See picture below.

Wednesday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Jenna.

Thursday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Friday – Kettlebell/TRX circuit at home.

Saturday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Shane – right, the day I hired a sitter to come over so I could workout.

Sunday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte. Yup, two days in a row.  I am about to have to take a few weeks off.  It’s time to get it in!

Pregnancy Update – Week 35

Size of Baby (per “What To Expect”) – Size of a pineapple. Approximately 5-6 pounds.

Weight Gain – Somewhere between 22-24 pounds. This is the exact same amount as last week.  I’m not really paying attention to weight gain as much at this point.  If the baby measurements at the doctor are on track, and I am still feeling ALOT of movement, I am going to feel good about where I am at.

Movement – Plenty of movement.  Unfortunately, it is isolated to my hips and outward belly pushes. The doctor seems to think the baby is not head down right now. This is okay, but let’s hope that she makes a move downward in the next couple of weeks.

Sleep – Whoa did I get sick last week.  Even worse, I got pink eye.  Guess what ladies?  Those antibiotics that the doctor gives your child when they get pink eye are not generally approved as safe for pregnant women.  That means I had to fight the entire infection sans antibiotics.  Hello crusty eyes that had to literally be pried open in the morning.

What I miss – Warm weather.  Temperatures in Charlotte were record lows.  It iced.  We were forced to stay inside a lot more than I would have liked.

Best Moments this Week – My send off ride!  I taught my last class at Flywheel Charlotte prior to baby number two getting here.  It was bittersweet.  I will truly miss being on the bike as an instructor, but I have reached the point that it is important for me to get some much needed rest and nesting time.

photo 4-134I was welcomed into the studio by these beautiful flowers.  Such a generous gift from two very special people.  I was in the presence of some of the most committed, tough riders in our city.  It was incredible.  The numbers speak for themselves!

photo 3-175Once the weather finally cleared, we were finally able to get out of the house and spend some family time together.  Moments like this I will cherish.  It is slowly starting to hit me that we won’t only be this family unit of three for at most another month.  Our whole dynamic is about to change.

Looking forward to – I don’t know if I am more looking forward to, or anxiously awaiting, my final ultrasound.  We didn’t get an ultrasound after 18 weeks with my first.  We are getting one at 36 weeks with my second.  I can’t help but hope that everything goes okay.  We aren’t the most religious people in the world (and we certainly don’t go to church as much as we should), but I pray for my girls every day.

Cravings –  Sweets.  It is officially Lent.  We gave up sweets.  Killer for a pregnant woman.

Symptoms –  Starting to get Braxton Hicks contractions.  After a long day on my feet, I finally had to pull a stool over while I cooked dinner.  My back hurt and I needed the rest.  My belly gets bigger than I realize each week.

Workouts – The awful weather really put a damper in my workouts.  I probably needed the rest with the bad cold that I was trying to recover from.

Monday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Tuesday – Day off.  Even my usual Tuesday night Flywheel Charlotte class was cancelled.

Wednesday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Zach.

Thursday – Tracy Anderson Pregnancy DVD.

Friday – Ride Flywheel Charlotte with Sarah.

Saturday – TRX Training (pictures below).  Yes, pregnant women can do TRX at 36 weeks.  You would be surprised how much of the training that I was actually able to participate in (and how sore I was).

11021102_10103254926004053_8199797163800953161_nThe instructor was very well spoken and qualified in helping guide me through modifications.  Modifications that I will continue to use in my personal training.  The biggest compliment that she gave me was, “You are literally the most fit pregnant person that I have ever seen.”  Trust me, at this point in my pregnancy this might have made my week.

Sunday – Teach Flywheel Charlotte.
